Profile:
As a composer, I wish to write music which is colourful and dynamic, which explores new ideas and artistic concepts, which sounds spontaneous each time it is performed. I want to entertain and challenge my audience, but also transport them and heighten their experience beyond the concert hall.
I find inspiration in many places – from the personalities of my performers, to the space in which the performance will happen, from visual sources such as paintings or film, to more abstract fields such as chaos mathematics or anthropological theories. But, no matter how oblique the source, it is always my priority to create a three-way communication between the performers, the audience and myself.
I am able to extend this communication into my performances as a conductor and pianist. This activity contributes to my versatility and development as a creative artist. To perform live in concert and know in fine detail the work of other composers helps me shape my own works. Equally as rewarding is to give a new musical experience to audiences.
